Ladies of the Tablelands

Framed in spalted birch. 36 ¼” x 28 ¼”, 2007.

Available through Red Ochre Gallery, NL.

This panel depicts miniature yellow lady slippers. Some of these beautiful flowers can be found in a seemingly unlikely spot— like on the barren-looking ochre and adobe coloured rocks of the Tablelands in Gros Morne National Park. These ancient minerals do not encourage growth of any kind, and thus are the complete opposite of the richer mountains just across the divide (highway). A closer inspection of the tiny drainages of these slopes will yield to the adventurous orchid hunter a glorious view of large bunches of slightly scented yellow lady slippers shaded by small brush clinging to survival in this harsh environment.

Witless Bay
