A Stone's Throw Glass

Leaded Panels for Salmon Run

Cut glass getting set up for one of 12 panels

12 panels to go!

Piles of scrap glass are growing

Right now, I am working on the 12 panels that will be the background for Salmon Run– these will make up two 6′ x 6′ freestanding scenes behind the glass river of swimming salmon. May 9th at the Devon House Gallery is certainly arriving quicly!

Stacks of Salmon

The days are getting longer, and time is getting shorter until my exhibition of Salmon Run at the Devon House Gallery in St. John’s, this May 9th. My studio is full of piles of fish, and the river in (on) which they will be swimming is materialising, segment by segment. Can’t wait!

Making Molds…

Off and on over the past while, I have been experimenting with different mold-making techniques and mold materials… from newspapers to duct tape!

The newspapers and fibre blanket led to duct tape and fibre balnket, which led to the first trial of glass in the shape of a torso… but it needs more work. This, then, led to a plaster cast mold of a torso, which will hopefully lead to something in glass soon!

Cheese, Please!

I started a new little series this week… this is the bowl of a Plate-and-Bowl set; if all goes well, tomorrow the Plate will be ready too!

Atlantic Salmon

I am currently working on several projects in the studio; some are smaller ones, some quite a bit broader in scope. These salmon are going to be a part of my spring exhibition at the Devon House Gallery this May. I have about 30 or so more fish to fire for the first time, and then I get to work out further details for fusing and slumping sessions for all 99 of them! These 99 fish will then be part of a larger installation… will keep you posted!

Mummers!!

Mummers in the Studio

Mummer panel, waiting for its turn in the kiln. After slumping, the panel will be drilled so that it can be set onto the copper stand made so that a candle can be placed behind the panel. Beautiful on a mantle, a window ledge, or the Christmas table!!

Mummers!

These are two of the four designs that I made for the Christmas season. I took two of each to the St. John’s Fine Craft and Design Fair this past week, and have sold out, but am working on four new designs… These are limited editions, as I do not wnat to make more than two of each. I will be selling these at the Best Coast Christmas Craft Fair at Marble Mountain Nov 20-22, as well as taking orders from the studio directly.
