The Sunburst Raven, a 22″ glass bowl draped to create gentle folds in the presimmon glass, glows as does an early morning sunrise.

Atlantic Salmon

I am currently working on several projects in the studio; some are smaller ones, some quite a bit broader in scope. These salmon are going to be a part of my spring exhibition at the Devon House Gallery this May. I have about 30 or so more fish to fire for the first time, and then I get to work out further details for fusing and slumping sessions for all 99 of them! These 99 fish will then be part of a larger installation… will keep you posted!

Mummers!!

Mummers in the Studio

Mummer panel, waiting for its turn in the kiln. After slumping, the panel will be drilled so that it can be set onto the copper stand made so that a candle can be placed behind the panel. Beautiful on a mantle, a window ledge, or the Christmas table!!

Mummers!

These are two of the four designs that I made for the Christmas season. I took two of each to the St. John’s Fine Craft and Design Fair this past week, and have sold out, but am working on four new designs… These are limited editions, as I do not wnat to make more than two of each. I will be selling these at the Best Coast Christmas Craft Fair at Marble Mountain Nov 20-22, as well as taking orders from the studio directly.

Art Bank Submission

I have been working on a number of different things lately, and am learning a LOT!! Local sculptor Gerard Kelly has been helping me out with some of my experiments– we’ve been trying different mold materials and firing cycles for glass, and while I’m learning more about making molds/kiln casting and a bit about carving, Gerard is learning a bit about glass. The result of the past month or so of effort is this piece, Shattered Dreams, that I have submitted to this year’s Provincial Art Procurement Program, or Art Bank.

Dories for the Foray

Dories for the Foray

I am just finishing up an order for the Newfoundland and Labrador Mushroom Foray 2009– I was awarded the commission of creating a set of dories with the Foray’s mushroom logo incoporated into the design. Firstly, I created a template for the shape of the mushroom, cut the bottom layer for these out of plain glass, then created a cardboard template with which I sifted glass powders and enamels onto each mushroom. I then fused each enamelled mushroom individually, and when I had finished carving the mold for the dory, I slumped and fused the pieces into each little boat. These will be gifts for the experts coming to the Foray from out-of-province. Fun!
